Laboratory of X-Ray Optics and Electron Microscopy

Laboratory of X-Ray Optics and Electron Microscopy (LXROEM) was found in 1981.
The scientific interests of the laboratory are the investigation of X-ray optic phenomena on the perfect and deformed
single crystals within 1å wavelength range, the study of mechanisms of the X-ray and electron-microscopic diffraction contrast formation on the crystal lattice defects, the investigation of the crystal lattice defects in semiconductors, high-temperature superconductors, single crystals of refractory metals and alloys by X-ray topography, transmitting electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods.

The scientific structure of the laboratory

17 staff members including 9 researchers work in the laboratory.
Prof. Dr. E.V. Suvorov is a head of the laboratory.
The laboratory consists of three research groups:
  • Electron microscopy
  • X-ray optics and topography
  • Structure and properties of refractory metals

  • The laboratory has the modern Equipment-Methodical facilities, X-ray and electron-microscopic equipment which are also used by collaborators of the other institute laboratories within the scope of the methodical principle.
Historically the laboratory has been opened for collaborators of the other institute laboratories and rendered methodical service since its inception. To carry out the simple work clients have had a short training and after that they have gone into position of users of the required equipment and techniques. More complicated problems have been carried out by LXROEM staff members together with clients.

The laboratory researchers actively participate in the work of the. Chernogolovka branch of the Chemical Physics Department of Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys to educate young specialists
